In the Bible anyone who had seizures was said to have a devil (demon). If I have seizures, does this mean I have a devil? Everyone I have asked says no, but isn't the Bible the Word of God which cannot err? And if the Bible says those who have seizures have devils, wouldn't that mean people who have seizures have a devil? Or were the authors of the Gospels misinterpreting a seizure as a sign of possession b/c they simply didn't know what a seizure was?
Anyone who has an answer, please reply as I am worried about this.

In my honest opinion I believe it is the latter. just sit there for a mintue and think about it, during those days medical science was limited and the good lord more than likely didn't see it fit to stand and explain every little detail about every disorder or disease.
So if you were just a bystander and witnessed what a person having a seizure looked like during that time it may very well look like they was filled with the devil himself. I mean your thrashing around uncontrolably, eyes might be rolled back, maybe making funny noises and might even have a foam coming out of your mouth. I know I would look at that and say wow that person has the devil himself in him.
So I think that would be the most logical way to look at it, kind of like food in the bible (i.e. pork) and just try and interput it the best way you can when you talk to the lord.
Now as far as you having a demon I honestly don't know the anwser to that, only you do. can you get a demon? yes you can, infact anyone can during a lapse of judgement or any number of other reasons. nobody is exempt from the devil including Jesus himself or the chosen couple Adam and Eve. he appears to anyone in various ways but the goal is the same everytime and thats ultimate destruction, see he knows he is going to lose the war but he is trying to win a indvidual battle with anyone he can get and have as much company as he can when he loses that war.
it was like I said at church last night I wish that devil looked like in the cartoons, all red with them horns, the tail and a pitch fork. I would run him over everytime I seen him but the truth is he ain't. and he tempts each and everyone of us on a daily basis in various ways trying to get our souls. what we have to do is resist and remember the good Lord gave us power over him and everything he can do, and we can make him do whatever we want if we want to. we can either choose to cast him out everytime he tries to get at us, or we can choose to follow him starting with the small stuff all the way through to the lake of fire. and he won't stop, you will be tempted at any time and who knows how many times by him, now he won't come up to you and say hey you wanna be a meth head with me, or hey lets go shoot herione. no he will start small with hey you wanna go see a movie, or you wanna look at this website, or that coat looks good in the store who cares if you have the money or not for it, just grab it you deserve it and they have plenty of money they won't miss it. so it is up to you to catch these things and get rid of him everytime.
I say if your honestly worried about this, go to your preacher, sit in his office and have a deep discussion with him and then most of all talk to the good Lord about it and trust me he will know exactley what to do in this situation.

I have consulted with my pastor as well as with a few other godly people & they all say the same thing you did Old Timer. My common sense even tells me that these men of old simply did not know what it was. But then I wonder ... if the Bible says it is so, isn't it so? After all, isn't the Word supposed to be God breathed & not prone to error in any way? Or were the men under the inspiration of God, but still wrote with their own thoughts & ideas?

Well yes the bible is the word of God and thats really not what you have to worry about, but certain things have had mans thought injected I believe along with the lords. you always have that one person or so that is going to add something or take away from something over the years and I am sure the bible was not exempted.
What I try and do is follow it as closely as I can and on parts like this that are a little grey I just try and interput it the best I can using the book, talking to the lord, and any other pastors that I can get a hold of and just try and sort it out.

the thing is that the people of those days thought of it as a demon and it very well could haver been ,,there were many other cures that was written about and other examples of casting out of demons ,,,,,in some places still today lepers are considered a punishment from GOD but now with todays meds it can be cured .... you can read in different places about different people haveing demons casted out and some were fortune tellers and things like that ... after the blood of the most HOLY was spilled a lot of demons were bound and thrown into the pit not to say that it does not still happen but the BLOOD covers so many of our sins even the sinners that refuse to come to JESUS,,, HE still has mercy on everyone waites for all to come to know him ... his BLOOD has allready washed your robes you only need to confess them to the FATHER and that why i think demons are not as common today .........willypete

Thank you all. You advice has been a great help to me.
I had spoken with a Godly woman recently & she said although people can be oppressed & even possessed by demons, a person with seizures does not have a demon residing within them, but rather the demon uses the seizures to create chaos in the person's life, much like Satan used boils to afflict Job.
This seemed like a good answer to me & I thank God for leading her to me. I also thank God for all of you & this board where I can meet & talk to fellow Christians.
