I just wanted to share this. I went to get one of my seizure meds refilled. After much convincing, my DR. put me on generic b/c I could not afford name brand. Generic was $86 per mo. & I had been paying $277 for named brand, so I was happy.
Well, I went to get my med refilled & the pharmacy tech says it will be $273. I was like "What??" She said "The only reason it was $86 before was b/c you had Humana insurance." I told her I haven't had a job that had insurance for a year! I work part time w/ a company that has insurance, but it's Pan American, not Humana & that since I am not part time I don't qualify for insurance She said "Well, someone has been paying for your insurance & it was Humana, but it's expired now, so your medication is $273."
I didn't know what to do, so I left the pharmacy & broke down crying once I got in the truck. I had the money to pay for that month, but what about the month after that & the month after that? We had already had to take out a loan last summer just to pay for my medication. We couldn't do that again!
So I tell my husband & he says "They probably got you mixed up w/ someone else, let's go back & see if we can fix this." So we went back & spoke w/ the pharmacist himself. He confirmed I was not mixed up w/ someone else. Someone had been providing my insurance. I know it wasn't me, I know it wasn't either of my employers. I believe it was the Lord Himself! But the pharmacist did confirm my insurance ran out 1 Jan & that my that the medication (generic even!!) would cost $273 per mo. out of pocket.
We asked him why it was so high & he told us that there was only about $10 difference between name brand & generic in that drug. So we were stuck. Our out of pocket expense would be almost $300 per mo. either way we cut it.
We just looked at him. We couldn't pay that month after month & my DR. won't take me off it (we asked - several times) b/c it has gotten my grand mal seizures under control & once they get a handle on your seizures they don't want to change the meds. My DR. did reduce the dose for me once to try to make the financial burden easier, but I had a seizure as a result, so I had to go back on my regular dose.
We didn't know what do to. So the pharmacist asks me "Do you have any insurance now?" to which I replied "No." He says "Well, let me put you on this state insurance. It's supposed to help people who don't have insurance with the costs of expensive medication. It should save you about $5 or $10 dollars." Like that helps, but at this point we were willing to take anything.
He punched me in & guess what? I got a mo. supply of my medication that usually costs $273 for $44!!!! Even the pharmacist was shocked!!! He said it should have only saved us about $10 max, but he checked & re-checked & it still came up $44! He was as shocked as we were!! We took the medication & thanked them profusely.
I know this was the work of God! I thank God for His mercy & I share this praise report whenever I can!!
